Delhi We started off in New Delhi and Old Delhi seeing the main sights. Most moving was the Gandhi memorial

Agra Beautiful, especially the Taj Mahal which was surprisingly spiritual, perhaps because it represents a reckless love

Jaipur We didn't care much for the desert, but the elephant ride was breathtaking

Cochin What a wonderful swimming pool in the hotel with water at 25C, and a memorable evening at the theatre

Munnar Tea plantations, and we stayed at a Fort. Highlight was the furry rabbits at the hotel

Thekkady We stayed at the treetops hotel but didn't need a ladder! Took a boat ride into a nature reserve, no elephants or tigers, but lots of birds

Whispering Palms A horizon pool looking out onto a lake, and we had a lakeside bungalow. A dream stay

Allapedy A houseboat drew up outside our bungalow and took us away into the backwaters of Kerala for two nights. Three staff to look after the two of us.

Kovalam A beach hotel to round off the stay, except that there was an outcrop of rocks to get to the sea. However we had a pool-side room
